Collin Monsarrat
Head Trader / Assistant Portfolio Manager
Collin is not just a financial professional; he is a passionate student of the markets. He is entering his 25th year at Birinyi Associates and continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Firm.
Collin’s journey to the world of finance started with a fascination for stock trading during what became known as the DOT.com era. This fascination began while working as a project manager at a local environmental company, which afforded sufficient personal time to pursue what became his passion. It soon became clear that this passion was his calling.
Collin joined Birinyi Associates in 1999 and in two years ascended the ranks from Research Associate to Head Trader and shortly after added the new role of Assistant Portfolio Manager. Collin’s two and a half decades of research, trading, and portfolio management has made him an invaluable and unique asset to both Birinyi Associates and its clients.
Collin lives in Fairfield, CT with his wife and daughter, as well as 6 horses, 16 chickens and 2 dogs. Most weekends, Collin can be found cheering on his daughter at her equestrian competitions. An avid skier, in the colder months you can often find him on the slopes.
Laszlo Birinyi
Founder
Laszlo Birinyi is the founder of Birinyi Associates, which he ran until his passing in 2023. A graduate of The University of North Carolina and New York University’s Graduate School of Business Administration, he began his career as a sales trader. At Mitchell, Hutchins he introduced the first trading calendar which allowed his desk to respond more quickly to earnings and other indicators.
In 1976 he was hired by Salomon Brothers where he wrote the firm’s first market letter and created the Block Monitor, which later became Money Flows. He was responsible for a variety of market studies including Trading Costs, and Volatility. He created the Soloman / Russell international stock index in 1978. His trading manual, The Equity Desk, was cited in Michael Lewis’ Liar’s Poker.
In 1989 he left Salomon and formed Birinyi Associates while consulting for what is now Bloomberg LLC, where he became the first third party research provider. From 1990 through 1999 he was a panelist on Louis Rukeyser’s Wall Street Week. In 1999 he was inducted into that show’s Hall of Fame.
As so many can attest to, he was a pioneer and passionate student of the market, never satisfied with the status quo, always the consummate professional who desired for his “students” to continue to succeed where he ended.
